Have you ever heard that term before? If you are serious about\u00a0making a lot of money off your comics or running the perpetual collection program, then you must read and heed the following, starting with the title \u2013 \u201cRetail is for Suckers!\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n

Lets get down to basics:<\/font><\/p>\n

Profit = Sales price \u2013 cost<\/font><\/p>\n

Now there are a lot of \u201ccost\u201d items that can add up (E-bay fees, shipping, etc), but right now we are going to concentrate on the cost of the comic book itself.\u00a0 <\/span>If you read this blog and are a subscriber to the members only website, I hope you are using at least one of the methods I will describe below.\u00a0 Today we’ll talk about new comics exclusively.\u00a0 Stay tuned for some back issue techniques.<\/font><\/p>\n

Every penny you save on your comic book purchases can have a big impact on your final profit.\u00a0 <\/span>This is especially true with new comic books.\u00a0 <\/span>If you are buying them for cover price off the newsstand (or from your comic book store) you are making a big mistake.<\/font><\/p>\n

The bottom line is you must get a discount on your comic books.<\/font><\/p>\n

At a minimum you should be getting a 10% discount from your local store.\u00a0 <\/span>This usually means setting up a \u201cpull\u201d list,\u00a0where the store\u00a0orders certain titles for you every month.\u00a0 <\/span>You can choose new title, order a couple copies, etc.\u00a0 <\/span>This is great for\u00a0 \u201creaders\u201d and if you decide to speculate on one or two books.<\/font><\/p>\n

If you are really going to speculate on a book and order\u00a0a lot of\u00a0copies, I recommend mailordercomics.com <\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span>Here you can order a lot of copies and get a very substantial discount.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s work through an example.<\/font><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s say you bought Mighty Super X Guy #234 for a 10% discount of the cover price of 2.99.\u00a0 <\/span>Your cost is $2.69.\u00a0 <\/span>Buy 10 copies and you\u2019re out $26.90.\u00a0 <\/span>Let\u2019s say the book rises in value to $5.00.\u00a0 <\/span>You sell your 10 copies and make $50.00 – $26.90 = $23.10.\u00a0 <\/span>Your break even point was 6 copies.<\/font><\/p>\n

Now let\u2019s say you bought your 10 copies for a 50% discount, or $1.50 each.\u00a0 <\/span>If you sell all ten copies a $5.00 each, you’ll make $35.00.\u00a0 <\/span>More importantly, you only have to sell 3 copies at $5.00 to break even<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span>If the book cools down you now have much more room to negotiate on price for the 7 remaining copies.\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span>Every copy\u00a0you sell after copy number 3 is profit.<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\n
