Battlestar Galactica

This may be a little off topic, but there is a BSG comic book out there and this is my blog (and there is a pop culture connection) so I can talk about it. I’m not a big TV fan, but one of the two shows I do watch is BSG. If you haven’t watched the show, pick up the miniseries on DVD and you will be hooked in about 2 minutes. That’s what happened to me.

Two years ago my wife had to head back to Michigan for more than a month to take care of a relative. I ended up doing a long distance commute between my home in California and Michigan each week. My schedule pretty much consisted of me coming home from my job, looking through the mail, make sure the neighbor checked the house, get a few hours of sleep and then try to go stand-by back to Detroit. Fun.

Anyway, my wife and kids bought me an iPod for Father’s Day and I downloaded the first mini-series episode on iTunes for the long flight. I was a fan of the original series (hey, I was a teen, so give me a break!), but the new series captivated me in about two minutes. The first year was excellent and the production has kept up the high standard over the last few years.

Unfortunately, we are in the last season. It’s bittersweet. On one hand I will miss the series, but on the other I love the fact that it will end!!! Sci-Fi is not drawing this out until the last penny of profit is drawn from the series, everyone is sick of it, and it goes out with a whimper. Thank you for going out strong!

If you haven’t seen the series you are fortunate in one way. You can rent the discs and avoid the agonizing wait to see what happens week after week. Of course I wouldn’t plan on getting much sleep on a night you start watching the shows. My wife and I spent a few late nights with a few adult beverages under the guise of “okay, just one more episode.” Yes, my wife watches it, she is not a comic reader or sci-fi fan, so it should give you an idea of the quality of the show.

The Stanley Cup Finals are finished (Go Wings!), Lost is done for the season, so this is it for me and the television. If you are interested, I included a video widget below to check out.

Going to the San Diego Comic Convention?

I’m planning on attending the San Diego Comic-con Thursday with my oldest son. If you’re going to be there let me know and maybe we can say hi!

Thanks to this post I was saved, I almost procrastinated too long and missed the chance. Luckily I wasn’t planning on attending all four days.

Most of us started searching for comic books the old fashioned way – basic and advanced searches on E-bay, Google, links on favorite sites, recommendations, etc. The problem with that method is it takes a lot of time and turns up a lot of junk to get to a few gems.

There has to be a better way!

The tool I use is something I developed myself, or rather, I tailored it to my preferences. The best way I can describe it is comic book search “magnets” because instead of taking time and effort to hunt down the comics you want they will come to you instantly.

The main tool I introduce in the May newsletter is the search “magnets” and I also include a video about how to use them, and show them in action.

This issue also includes the Iron Man winners, the latest tools, and this month’s actual sales spreadsheet for you to download.
