Comic Book Value Resource

If you’re looking for information about how much your comics are worth, nothing beats actual sales data. While I recommend serious collectors, investors, and those with considerable comics they are looking for value to pick up a copy of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, there are a few other places to look for actual sales data, and this the Sparkle City comic book values page is another one. I especially appreciate Sparkle City’s comment:

If you’re looking to see what the current market is like on certain books, nothing beats actual sales data. Comic Book Price Guides are great tools for collectors, but they are just as the name implies; guides. Often comic books only sell for a percentage of a stated guide value or in the case of high grade or ultra scarce books can sell for over guide value. Nothing beats honest empirical data when trying to get honest comic book values!

Check out their actual sales tool here: Sparkle City Comic Book Values (complete with scans!)

A man in Elbow Lake, Minn., David Gonzalez, 34, found a copy of Action Comics #1 in the old newspapers insulating a wall of a house he was renovating. It was a startling discovery, and fortunately, he knew immediately he had found something valuable. Although the comic wasn’t in great condition, reaching only a 1.5 on the CGC scale, it is still worth a mint.

Mr. Gonzalez only paid $10,100 for the house, but the comic is already at $137,000 on comic connect with over two weeks left to bid.

You can see this amazing discovery and track the bidding here.

What a find!

Comic Book Values Video Discussion

I stumbled upon this video containing a great discussion about comic book values. The discussion is a couple years old but the points are still valid. It’s a great primer for what is important for a comic book value, what comic books are NOT valuable (even though their owners think they are), as well as several other important topics.  Jason brings in a CGC representative to offer some opinions, something you don’t get access to every day.

One of the best parts is the discussion about modern comics and how quickly they lose their value. If you are selling your comics or even an advanced collector/investor I highly recommend watching this discussion.
