Just look at all the superhero movies kids are exposed to. And all the costumes for Halloween.
These kids are far more exposed to all of these superheros than were kids 20 years ago, even 10 years ago. With many ppl believing these new comics will be worth nothing, fine let them think that. In 20 years, they will be the unpopular rare comic, that wasn't produced in large quantities. With the trend leaning towards digital. The comic industry will go through a recession. Many titles won't survive. The industry is already over saturated. And ppl will get rid of there collections realizing there worth nothing after all those years. Follow? Then it happens again. A similar fate as from the late 30's. Comics are once again worth money. Which, I have no clue.. But as long as kids know comics exist, and can see them ( checkout counters in grocery store ) there will be a market. As you stated production numbers are already lower. Yet they arent promoting them. It's all about money. Stores feel they can't make a profit on over priced comics, so they stopped buying them. The market is there, there focus is on the more visible toys though.

The demand will come from the impending death of print publishing. It may not be within the next decade, but if the current trend persists, the idea of a printed comic book is going to be outdated relatively soon.
