Dr. Strange First Disney/Marvel Comic Book Movie

It looks like Dr. Strange has been given the nod for the first comic book movie under the new Disney ownership of Marvel.

I ran across more details here. I will follow up with some comic book picks very soon. Of course, those of you who have the comic book movie course were updated on this possibility some time ago.

Chris Evans Cast as Captain America

The First Avenger: Captain America is moving right along with Chris Evans now cast in the lead role. The news has been fast and furious over the past week or so culminating with news of the acceptance of the role reported through numerous new outlets including Reuters.

The movie is scheduled to begin shooting this summer with under the direction of Joe Johnston. This is a three movie deal plus the Avengers for Evans. Stay tuned for some Captain America comic book movie picks.

Next Batman Movie – What Villain?

Several months ago the USA Today published an article and poll asking who should be the villain in the next Batman movie. The Riddler won.

But the question I have is are we at the point where there should be an original villain in these movies instead of recycled comic book characters? The big screen is becoming a universe of its own for both DC and Marvel. Although the main characters tend to be the same, many of the storylines are heavily modified from the comics. If this alternate universe is going to continue should we see some fresh faces?

So let’s put it to a poll. Take a look at the right sidebar and you will see the question. “Should the next Batman feature an original villain or an pre-existing comic book villain.” Cast your vote and let your voice be heard!

Tales of Suspense 39 – 1st Iron Man, so it’s a natural. Plus just a great key to have for the collector/investor
Iron Man 1 – 1st self titles comic, has held up well and I love that deep blue cover!
Tales of Suspense 52 – 1st Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson in the movie
Tales of Suspense 97 – 1st Whiplash played by Mickey Rourke
Iron Man 118- 1st War Machine, played by Don Cheadle
Sergeant Fury and His Howling Commandos 1 – the Nick Fury character continues to get more and more screen time, so I am watching

Iron Man 2 Update – First Whiplash Tales of Suspense #97

Iron Man 2 comic books are heating up, and a Tales of Suspense #97, the first Whiplash (the movie villain) sold for $896.25 in CGC 9.6 on January 31st. This sale was at Heritage Auctions.

Wolverine 2 Movie Update

Shuler Donner made several updates to the Marvel movie stable this last week over at Empire Online.

The first of these is Wolverine 2, which she says

“That’s the furthest along of all the X-Men projects on the boil. It’s actually the story we wanted to use for the first Wolverine film, but [Fox head honcho] Tom Rothman preferred to set the character up with an origin story first. This movie will really focus on the relationship between Wolverine and Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord, and what happens to him in Japan. We’re very fortunate to have a story mostly outlined for us [from the comic book arc co-written by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller].”

X4 – The X-men are Back to the Big Screen!

It looks like an new X-men movie is will be coming to a theater near you. Currently being called X4, Schuler Donner, who has been involved in all the previous X-men films, says a reunion of characters from the first X-men movies may be on the way.

We’ll be watching this news carefully in the upcoming months. In the meantime, this may be a good point to pick up some of those key X-men titles, X-men 94 and Giant Size X-men 1 immediately come to mind.
